Power suggestions to charge a mobility scooter...
Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a while but I need some help. After much to-do of getting a flat on the council and arguing for months on somewhere to store my Class 3 mobility scooter I find myself in need of some advice. I won't go into the ins and outs of the whole debacle except to say that the council's "suggestion" was to drive the scooter into the flat and charge it in my hallway. Anyone who has a class 3 AND a small one bedroom flat will know that this isn't viable.
Anyway to the problem at hand.
After having complained to my local councillors at the treatment my area housing team had given me I was finally awarded a council garage. This is where I house my scooter and it's JUST in walking distance for me. My problem is charging it. Council garages do not come with power around here and I am not allowed to run power to it (by means of extension). The council won't provide any power for me and so I'm left having to charge it outside my flat. This is already in contravention of the fire regulations stated in my tenancy agreement as it poses a significant fire risk if the batteries were to ignite, however, the council cannot have it's own way in everything. So… on days when I have the energy and no plans, I have to park it outside my living room window and charge it through the window.
Autumn is fast approaching and Winter not far behind and so charging with my window open in the cold temperatures will not be an option. I thought about an outdoor plug fitted by an electrician, just under my window, but in order to get it ok'd I would have to fill in a Tenant Alteration Request form of which I'm technically not allowed to do until I have been a tenant for 12 months. Under the circumstances they may honour the request but would need more information about where and why. If I tell them it's to charge my scooter outside in the winter, next to the building, blocking a communal path I know they're going to say no straight off the bat.
I have looked into portable charging solutions like battery power stations but I don't want something so big I can't take it back to the flat to charge. And I don't want to make the mistake of buying something that's easily portable but only has the capacity to charge he scooter for like an hour before it runs out of juice. Then there is cost to consider. Some of the power stations I have looked at are going to cost around £1500 but I'm uncertain if they will meet my power needs.
Does anyone have any knowledge in these matters and can anyone offer some advice please?
Thank you
Yorkshireman
