Question about new claim UC
Hi, I am currently self employed looking after pets, but do not get much money, thus receiving HB/CTB, I read that my self employment will be classified as 'not meaningful', should I stop it, as I ll be anyway asked to look for full time work? Also will I be asked to look 35 hrs for work and how often do I have to go and see my coach?
Are they nasty, I remember from long time ago they were horrible at the job centre even if you were genuinely looking for work
Thank you.

That will depend on a lot of things and if you report being self employed when you claim UC you will need to attend a gateway appointment with a work coach to discuss your self employed work.
If you're found to be gainfully self employed you will have a 12 month start up period where the minimum income floor will not apply.
There's some details here.
If you decide not to report being self employed then yes you will be expected to look for work. What Is expected of you will depend on what your claimant commiments are set to. I would expect you to have to attend your local job centre at least once every 2 weeks, possibly weekly.

Thank you for answering. Weekly? That sounds horrible. No, I ll not be classified as gainfully self employed, yoi need to earn at least the min hourly wage x 35 per week, I tead, that is why I wonder whether it would be best to be available for full time work and stop the self work. Also, if the first payment is after five weeks, ll it be paid in arrears, meaning, you ll be paid from the day you claim?
