Esa permitted work transfer to UC
hi I’m just about to start permitted work , and filling out the form to apply I have now received a letter saying I need to transfer over to UC by December is this likely to affect my sick pay when I change over if I’m doing permitted work ? Thanks

Permitted work rules do not apply to UC. Instead you'll have what's called a work allowance. This means that you can receive a certain amount of earnings each month before any deductions apply.
If you claim for help with the rent the work allowance will be £404/month, if you don't it will be £673/month. For every £1 of earnings over those amounts your UC reduces by 55p.
Sick pay is treated as earnings for UC.
If any part of your ESA is contributions based this will continue as normal but be deducted in full from any UC entitlement. Permitted work rules will apply for ESA.
Are you claiming any other benefits, if so which ones exactly please? and which group are you in for ESA?

Thanks for your quick reply, so with my esa I am in the support group with extra money as I am severely disabled so I get £481.10 every two week , I get full rate pip for care and mobility, housing benefits, child benefit, child tax credit. I am just worried im going to lose the extra if I start permitted work now before I move over and will uc think im well enough to work and lose the extra money, as I will only be capable of 12 hours a week on permitted work

will I also be able to get the work allowance and still be in the group for not being able to work on uc

Hello @libbyh. When you transfer over to UC your support group status will transfer with you as LCWRA, so you still won't be expected to look for work and you will receive the work allowance meaning you can earn a certain amount before any deductions are made to your Universal Credit.
