DLA to pip

Hi, I'm currently on ESA CB so I've heard that I won't be transferred over to UC, hopefully that's true. (I think I'm eligible for a small amount of ESA IR but haven't applied for it because dealing with the DWP panics me so badly and fills me with absolute dread, and I've not heard good things about UC either so I left it for now. But does anyone know what's happening to people on long term DLA though? Will they be transferred over to pip soon?

Also what do you think the chances of pip becoming means tested or replaced with vouchers etc? Thanks.

Hi, no you won't have to migrate to UC. Some people are still waiting to be migrated over from DLA to PIP (unless born before 9 Apr 1948), so I don't know when that's likely to happen in your case.

There have not been any changes mentioned by the govt. about PIP, & the vouchers were an idea by the last govt. We'll know more by the end of Oct., but I wouldn't worry too much about any media speculation in the meanwhile.

Ok thank you. I've avoided claiming any of the ESA IR benefit so far because it was a small amount due to my having some savings and because dealing with DWP and the UC stuff sends me into a panic. Do you think it's best to still avoid claiming it or am I worrying too much?

Only you can decide whether you feel it is worth it for your situation @lily84. I'd always encourage people to claim everything they're entitled to, but understandably some people feel it is too difficult or stressful and prefer to continue how they are. Have you had a look to see what you'd be entitled to on Universal Credit to compare?

Thanks for the reply Adrian. Dealing with anything to do with the DWP sends my anxiety through the roof so if I can avoid it then I will. I've tried to check to see if I'm entitled to anything but find it confusing as I live in a family members home and get muddled up on how to answer the questions, and also as I have a bit of savings that goes up and down I worry that on means tested benefit I would have to regularly tell them when I go over the limit so that puts me off as well. I guess I'm just mostly waiting to see what happens with labour as well.
