Hello out there!
hi, my name is Lisa, I’m new here but I’ve already been given amazing help from a few questions I had. I just needed to find the confidence to introduce myself
I’m a mother, a wife, an awesome friend!!! I have two grandchildren, a loyal and loving dog, a cat who remains aloof! I loved cooking, gardening, walking my dog, eating out with friends, going on girls only holidays and having get togethers at my house. That is me, that is still me, just some things I can no longer do.
I was medically retired from a 32 year career last September. It was devastating but I could no longer do my job. Although I struggled with my disability, I was still able to walk back then. Unfortunately I became very sick back in February. I had necrotising fasciitis on my abdomen from an infected insulin injection site. I had three surgeries, developed sepsis, had a tracheotomy so I could be put on mechanical ventilators. All this happened whilst I was in ICU and in an induced coma, so I was clueless my family were given a frightening diagnosis that I may not survive. I on the other hand, was asleep having the most awful dreams. Anyway, clearly I’m here today to tell the tale! I cannot walk, I’m in a wheelchair now. I have had amazing help, rehab and support from the NHS The diagnosis is critical illness neuropathy in my feet and lower legs. I’ve kept my spirits up with the loving help from my family and friends. But in my alone times, I think about my losses, and there are so many. I think about my 11 week stay in hospital where I felt safe. I imagine a full recovery and being able to do so much. It’s like everything is on hold indefinitely. All the tests I’ve had didn’t really give any answers, except the EMG which the Dr. apologised and said it’s quite serious. I found Scope online by accident, I knew of the charity prior, even volunteered with some work colleagues to redecorate the rest rooms for one of shops, but I never gave it a thought like most able bodied people, I am so grateful for the service. It’s my quiet corner to go to and read other people’s experiences, good or bad, it helps. I find comfort here. Thank you.
