Spare bedrooms
hi I’ve just applied for uc . I live in a 3 bed house . Council house . Myself and my
Partner do not share a bedroom we have our own due to us both having health problems . The third bedroom has just become free as our daugher has just left home . When I done the application there was no
Questions regarding usage of bedrooms in the house . Is there anything I should do so as not to have to pay bedroom tax for 2 bedrooms as I’ve only got one spare bedroom . I have a bedroom my partner has a bedroom . I’ve paid full everything for years and I’m really lost with this now I could see no options to explain how we live . Ty x

You can add a journal note about your bedroom use. UC will then make a decision on whether to deduct for one or two bedrooms.
Shelter has some useful information:

Thank
You so much for your replies . We just crack
On there’s people worse off . We do help each other when needed , but we do need our own sleep space hence why we do have our own rooms . It’s all new to us My daughter only moved out a little while ago . Really appreciate the replies we’ve really struggled esp last few years until I’ve just totally crashed my bodies screaming ‘ heal’ foolishly never asked or applied for any help until now until things have got too much. It’s like a minefield trying to navigate it all x
