Son been turned down for PIP

Hi there, my son has been receiving DLA for several years so when he turned 16 he had to go for an assessment and he was refused PIP, we didn't bother appealing as my son was too upset and didn't want to at the time, but he is proper struggling since leaving school, can we reapply and what tips can you give as I'm really concerned he will be turned down again, he has autism and a sound disorder but he only scored 2 points and I'm baffled at where they could turn him down when it's obvious to see he has every day struggles that most kids don't have!

    I would encourage you to reapply and to get support from an advice agency such as Citizens Advice or Welfare Rights. You may want to look at the information on the National Autistic Society website which has information on completing a PIP form.

    Hi @Doodlesmom, welcome to the community. Sorry to hear how upset your son was after the last PIP decision, it can be a really rough process for some people.

    The appeals process is frustrating but it's well worth sticking it out. Awful as it is to fight for it, many more people have success at Tribunal level and get the result they're looking for eventually.

    If you're looking to apply again, one thing that other members have said helped them was to provide plenty of real world examples of how your son's conditions affect his ability to undertake the activities in the PIP descriptors. If your son would struggle to do one of the descriptor activities, try to find an example for what happened in the past and write things down in detail, like what the consequences were and whether anyone witnessed it. Try to give as much detail as you can for each descriptor that applies to your son and back it up with examples as evidence.
