Disabled Road Tax Refund Question

Hi all. Many thanks about your messages with my first question, now I have another!

Mum's PIP was approved (application was in June) and we're getting the road tax exemption. I've read that you get a refund for the remaining months but I have a peculiar question. I have direct debit for my road tax, and am wondering if the months which mum was approved from (they've backdated and paid her from June to now) is eligible for refund? If not it's no big loss, but I am curious.

Also is a new logbook issued for the car?

Many thanks!

Hi @abir246. Here's some information about what to do: Road Tax Exemption. If you're keeping your current car, you'll need to go to a Post Office to change the tax status. You should automatically get a refund but may need to cancel the direct debit just in case. I'm sure the Post Office will be able to advise you.

I'm not 100% sure if you get a new logbook but you may do as you'll be changing the tax status to 'disabled'. I hope that's somewhat helpful, it's not something I've dealt with before!

You will get a new logbook with the disabled tax class on it. It can take a few weeks for that to come through.

Please be aware that the car can now only be used for the purposes of the disabled person. It cannot be used for your own purposes now.
