Hi @terri2024, a warm welcome to the community 😊 Do you know what rate of DLA your son was awarded?
I'm just going to pop this over to our Universal Credit category 🙂

Yes, it will be paid from the assessment period in which the DLA was awarded from. If the DLA award includes high rate care then it will be the higher disabled child element of £487.58/month. For any other DLA award it will be £156.11/month.

Sorry, do you mean high rate care? If so then it will be the higher disabled child element.

No worries. Yes, you will receive everything that's owed to you. Either yourself or your partner can also claim carers element of UC. You do not need to claim carers allowance to be entitled to carers element. The only time it can be paid is if the person claiming it also claims the LCWRA element for yourself. So if you claim this then your partner can claim carers element, or vice versa.
To claim carers element you need to report a change of circumstances on your journal and then click caring for someone and report it through there. Your UC will then increase by a further £198.31/month.
