Carers allowance
hi my daughter gets the carers element in her universe credit for caring for me and has done for about 7 months , she’s thinking of claiming carers allowance, now I know there’s no financial gain for the carers allowance as it will be taken off her uc, my question is how far back will they back date it and how much would uc take back for the back payment or would they take a amount out of her universal credit each month ? Thank you

It can be backdated for a maximum of 3 months. They used to pay the carers allowance as a lump sum and then there would be an overpayment for UC, which could be paid back from future UC payments. I don't know if that's the same now or whether they've changed it to do what legacy benefits did and pay the overpayment directly to UC.
Do be aware of the earnings limit with carers allowance, which doesn't apply to carers element. (if she works)
