Feeling constantly worried

like many people I’m so worried about the benefit changes. I was told by medics I wouldn’t reach my 30th birthday but continue to defy the odds and am now 48!. I have lost both parents, am an only child. I have carers in everyday, they take me out once a week to a club where I meet with friends with the same disability as myself, they take me to dialysis 4 times a week. I watched the conference today and am so worried, I understand the plans to get people back to work but surely if you are serverly disabled and cannot work, they have to keep the support and welfare there. It’s tourcher waiting if for the outcome of pip/voucher outcome, there was nothing in his speech about helping disabled. It’s like we are an inconvenience, I’m so worried and don’t feel is fair that we should have to deal with this on top of the other daily challenges we face with disability

Dear @Ann19571967 I share your fears. The benefit system has failed to distinguish between people with severe lifelong conditions and those who might improve or even get better given time and the right treatment. But you're a star! You've beaten the medical odds despite not having family support. Keep going. Zipz x

Heya @Ann19571967 and welcome to hte community.
I think we can all understand your worry, it's something many disabled folk are feeling. But the government aren't going to be forcing all disabled people back into work, but will be offering support for those who are able to work.We don't have any firm information yet, but as soon as we do, Scope will of course be making a statement and will be fighting for all disabled people if we need to. I think there will be changes, but we're all focusing on a worst case scenario currently, which isn't good for any of our mental health.

This is leaving me feeling venerable again, I've spoke to my gp this morning about where my thoughts are heading AGAIN because of this , I've had enough now .can they really make someone with severe arthritis who can't even hold a pen or gets out of breath just trying to wash their hair (these are just a few issues ).

Heya @deewhite and welcome to the community. 😊
As I've said previously, please try not to worry too much, they've only said those who can work should work. The ministers have had a few meetings with Scope so far and were actually interested in what the team had to say, so I'd see that as very positive for the disabled community.

wasnt that the tories that said "those that can work should work" labour want everyone back to work it seems

Not quite @Dave1993 it's definitely worth watching the recent speeches to get the full information.

Thank you 🙂 I try so hard to be positive but with waiting for the dreaded letter to migrate to universal credit from esa support group and now this . I'm at the end of my mental coping ability .

what are you dreading about it i think its a good thing i think its like £120 more per month unless you get SDP

I don't cope with change and I've seen so many people having issues with the managed migration, I'm a 57 year old disabled person who just wants to be left alone and live my life without being pestered or pushed into things I know I won't cope with. It's not about being better off ,it's about my state of mind and not wanting to feel suicidal anymore, of being made to change things or worry about made to look for work, which would be a set up for failer.

I'm worried too as I have had to battle the system for what I have and so I feel like they are going to deem me able to work… that I'll have to fight to prove otherwise and I'm feeling so exhausted overwhelmed and broken atm
I'm having back to back flare ups and I just don't want to worry and feel so vulnerable any more…
I'm so tired of fighting

My rheumatoid had flared up and my heart problems have gone through the roof , not to mention my suicidal thoughts, I can not go through all this again.

Im So sorry you are struggling and going through this... it's so wrong 😞
I have to fight for my kids but I'm so sick of it... I don't want to do this anymore... I don't want to feel so vulnerable and scared anymore 😞

I wouldn't be able to say for certain to be honest. But from what they've been saying about getting the NHS back on its feet, a lot of the talk has been focused on getting people the medical help to stop them being off work long term. They've been very careful to say "Work, IF they can" so I don't think anyone will be getting forced down the mines or anything sinister. But this is of course just personal opinion.

I am also extremely worried.
These potential benefit changes are consuming my mind day and night.
My health conditions have flared up and it has made me feel so ill.

I completely understand your worry @luvpink. I can't wait until we know the answers. Until then we just have to wait, which I know is very difficult to do without panicking. As @Albus_Scope said, they're saying that people should work "if they can". I don't believe they will force people into work who simply can't due to disability.

oh honey - I’m sending you a big 🤗 hug
You are not alone (we are all processing the shear amount of info & rumors differently) and this forum can be a great place to talk out your worries
I keep regular tabs on social media and I really get the impression that the disabled community have finally been pushed too far and labour may not be allowed to walk over us like the tories did the past 14 years
We as a community could do worse than look over at the pensioner group (re: winter fuel) and be inspired by the fight in them imo
I also hood disability charities have been working on ‘break in case of emergency’ strategy if labour actually goes ‘there’ (hopefully their common sense will prevail on this one)

Since all this has come about , first Pip, esa migration, now budget etc . I haven't had the energy to do my crafting which I love., I just worry and scroll through my phone to see any bits of news regarding benefits changes, having Autism and chronic disorder which I won't get better from . It's not fair how they can treat people like nothing.

I totally understand @Andi66 it's a very difficult time for all of us on benefits. But please remember, we won't get any concrete information until at least October 7th, possibly October 31st, so I'd honestly try not to read anything on the internet about benefits until then as it's all speculation and we'll all end up just making each other more ill by trying to guess.
