Universal credit
hi I have just been diagnosed with adhd and ASD and am self employed. I get universal credit as a single parent but am struggling with my mental health and thinking of getting a sick note. I also get carers allowance so I know they don’t pay both.
is it worth going for the lcwra? Is the assessment bad? Any advice would be most appreciated. Do I still get the carer element while waiting on a decision?

You will continue to receive the carer element and this would only change if you are awarded LCWRA. If you are awarded LCW there is no payment for this and as such they will continue paying the carer element instead.
LCWRA does pay more than the carer element but whether you will be entitled depends on your situation and whether you would meet the descriptors. The work capability assessment can be difficult for people to go through, but if you believe you are entitled to the extra support you should not let that put you off.
You can read the LCWRA descriptors here

Heya @Gemmabelle17 and welcome to the community.
I can see Emilee has already given you some top advice, I just wanted to drop in and say a quick hello. Good luck with your WCA if you go for it. 😊

thank you for your advice and warm welcome. It’s just daunting having the assesment. I passed a pip one last year so maybe they might be similar

Hi I get UC LCWRA. If I work how much can I earn before I lose money? Thank you

No problem at all @Gemmabelle17 I've had a WCA before and it was just a phone call with some questions about my health. It lasted about 30 mins and didn't feel quite as brutal as my PIP assessments have felt.

@albus_scope can I ask you about the sick notes you need before the assessments. Do I need to get 3 months worth? Thank you

You need to continue to provide them without any gaps until a decision is made on the work capability assessment. Gaps can affect when the extra money is paid from if found to have LCWRA. The whole process could potentially take several months.

You will have the work allowance. This means a certain amount of earnings you receive each month will be ignored before deductions apply.
If your UC includes help with the rent it will be £404/month, it it doesn't it will be £673/month. For every £1 of earnings received over those amounts your UC is reduced by 55p.
