Awarded ESA

HI everyone,
I already receive UC , LCWRA and pip standard daily living and standard mobility.
I have just received a letter today from DWP stating I have been awarded NSESA from 27th September.
It also states I may need to complete a work capability assessment but I've already had that with UC and was awarded LCWRA in May 2024.
I have rang the help line on the letter and the gentleman said everyone gets placed in the contribution based ESA at first for 3 months and once they realise I already get LCWRA ill be placed in the support group.
Can anyone tell me if that is correct or not.
I did have a telephone appointment with UC last Friday the 20th Sept for a commitments revue prior to sending my details to ESA and this was completed successfully.
Thank you

That letter you received was a standard letter where it said an assessment would be needed. You don’t need another because you already had one for UC anyway.
You should be placed into the Support Group from the start of your ESA claim. Although it will not make any difference to your overall benefits entitlement anyway because the ESA is just deducted in full from your UC.

Thank you as always @poppy123456 for your response.
I remember you saying I should be placed in the support group because of LCWRA, but I just wanted to check the letter was correct or not.
I'll wait for dwp to check as the gentleman on the help line said everyone is places into this group first.
Thanks

You're welcome. It's confusing when you receive a letter like that due to them being standard letters.

I understand @Biblioklept it is annoying as you say, but as it is deducted £1 for £1 from UC I'll just wait for them to deal with it.
Thank you

Hi @poppy123456
I have just notice the esa letter says I must keep giving them fit notes until I have a work capability assessment.
My employment ended yesterday the 27th Sept and my current fit note I sent to my employer ends 9th October, is it worth me asking for another fit note just in case they ask for it , I appreciate I shouldn't need them anymore with being awarded lcwra in May and as you stated I won't need another wca.
Thanks again

Hi @poppy123456,
Can I just clarify something.
With regards to the Esa letter I have received today. It says I must keep sending in fit notes until I have a WCA , although you have said I won't need one being on LCWRA already.
My employment ended yesterday 27th Sept and my current fit note ends 9th October. Is it worth me asking for another so the dates continue without a break until this Esa is sorted and changed to support group or shall I not bother getting another.
Thanks again poppy

Hi,
Sorry for another question regarding this esa letter.
It says I must keep sending in fit notes until my WCA is done. I appreciate I don't need one ,being in receipt of lcwra, and my employment ended yesterday 27th Sept. My current fit note I sent to my employer ends 9th October. Is it worth me asking for another so there are no gaps just in case it causes an issue before the support group is awarded.
Thank you all

The letter is just a standard letter and you do not need fit notes. You've already had a WCA and don't need another. Weren't you actually told that by someone that rang you from ESA a little while back?

Hi poppy,
Last conversation with esa was to send the fitnote in and send my ssp1 form when I get that which I did. I Was just a bit concerned about this letter as I've never dealt with esa before i didnt relise this was a standard letter they send..thanks for your help anyway

Apologies for the question being posted 3 times, when I sent it the first time I didn't show within the thread as a comment so I sent it again.
Thanks Poppy

Hi all ,
Just thought I would update this thread i started a few days ago about NS ESA being awarded.
I contacted DWP this morning to explain that I have been placed in the contribution based ESA when I have already had a WCA with UC in April and was awarded LCWRA in May.
I received the same answer again.... I have to stay in this group for 13 weeks before being placed into the support group. So for anyone else who applies for NS ESA once there ssp ends after 28 weeks this is what will happen. As others have said it doesn't make any difference regards UC as it is deducted £1 for £1 anyway.
Do I need to inform UC on my journal once I receive my first NS ESA payment this week, or will DWP automatically inform them. If I have to tell them myself what do I select on my journal as I cant see a category to do this.
Thanks

Thanks for the update. Just to be sure you should report the changes to UC but ESA will very likely contact them.

Thanks @poppy123456
Can you advise how to report this on my UC journal please, I looked at "a change" but then I couldn't see what option would cover anything about esa ?
Take care

I think you should just put a message under the payment section and someone will see it eventually.

Hi @poppy123456 and also @Jimm_Scope
I managed to get the message to UC on my journal as @poppy123456 suggested about my upcoming ESA payment.
Thanks for your help.
