UC say we were paid and deducted money?
Hi, I have a really unusual situation. I am on Universal credit and they are saying me and my wife were paid by a unknown company for over 200 pound and deducted our universal credit accordingly. The thing is we have never heard of the company and no money ever went into our bank account. Has this ever happened to anybody as nobody is giving any answers. I feel there is some money laundering going on but I might be wrong. Any ideas anyone?

I would ask for evidence and gather as much info as possible and go seek professional help, CAB for starters
Alarm Alarm, sets off alarm bells for me, i for one have never heard of this situation before
i have been on benefits for a good amount of time, even when i had an accident and received compo it never effected my UC entitlement

Hi @Tigertank and welcome to the community. That does sound very strange. Have you contacted UC through your journal to get more information about it? Have you also checked all of your bank accounts in case it is something you might have forgotten about?
CAB is Citizens Advice Bureau who will hopefully be able to offer you some advice.

The most likely cause is someone misreporting to HMRC and this being picked up by the RTI feed UC use. You can check your own tax account to see if something has been incorrectly reported in your name.
If there is something there you need to find out the cause. If there is not, then you need to raise an RTI or RTE dispute with Universal Credit.

Hi, thanks for the replies, I have raised this with UC and they have asked for bank statements with which I have supplied but they seem very half soaked about this and I'm 100 pound down until it's sorted out. I have stated my concerns about who has my details. Do you think I need to contact CAB as this seems fraudulent to me and I'm the one suffering for it. I have looked up the company and there's an address but no phone number, no email and no website which sends out alarm bells.

I certainly don't think it would hurt to contact CAB @Tigertank, they should have people experienced with dealing with issues UC have caused!
I'm just going to move this over to our Universal Credit section.

Thankyou Jimm for the reply. They have replied to say they have referred it to the RTI department. I will contact cab just incase, previous experiences with uc have been dire to say the least.

Not sure how to reply to someone's comment. Do I click on quote lol?

You can just leave a comment in the box like you've done in previous comments. Or you can quote that members comment, or mention their name. If you put an @ before their name it means you will be tagging them in that comment.

I hope you can get it all sorted @Tigertank. Will you let us know what CAB say? Dealing with UC can be very hit and miss!

Yes will do, it's been passed over to the RTI department.
