Somewhere to stay/respite care/holiday for a few days for disabled person (me!)

My husband is due to go into hospital for surgery soon, for a few days, and I may have to organise somewhere to stay for myself during this time.  I am disabled with mobility issues (need a stick/walker for short distances, or wheelchair to move about further), but otherwise I'm okay, friendly, usually independent, housetrained etc. 😊

I would need somewhere to stay with good accessibilty and preferably not just a hotel room.  I can't stay with friends or family because none live close enough or are suitable.  So I don't know - respite care, disability-friendly guest house, hotel with good facilities and lots to do?  It would be nice not to have to cook, and I also badly need a break, as I have not had a holiday for over two years, so somewhere nice would be lovely!  (I don't want much, do I?  😀 🤣 )

I can pay for this by the way, so the cost is not a problem.  Oh, and I live in the borders of Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire area, near Sandhurst, but anywhere around these areas would be good.

Does anyone have any ideas please, because I don't know where to start!

    Hello Scooby222,

I'm sorry to hear that your husband needs to go into hospital for a short while. Whilst I do not have any direct solutions for you have you tried contacting Adult Social Services, who 'should' be able to offer you some advise on where you might receive respite care? This might seem a 'long shot' given the seemingly 'current crises' for places but Social Services (I believe) have a certain "Duty of Care" to you given the nature of your circumstances.

You have stated that you could do with a 'break' as you have not had a 'holiday' for a while, another source that may be helpful to you is Care for Cares. I'm not sure but think either your local Council or even your GP practice may be able to give you some telephone numbers to contact them to see if they can offer anything that meets your individual needs. Failing either of these options, it may be that you contact a Care Agency directly who although not ideal for your 'wishes' but might be a solution as a 'last resort' to your problem.

I hope this might help. Good Luck with your endeavour and I wish your husband well and speedy recovery.

Very interesting post , there's bound to be lots of people in same predicament tbh, I wonder if there is a lust of places that can accommodate, as fiffrasberry said perhaps GP is a starting point, it can be hard trying to find suitable places .

Revitalise. They have Jubilee Lodge not far out of London. Any care, food, trips and even laundry are dealt with for you.

Thank you for all replies, some very useful names and links there. I have been looking at them all.

I don't have any dates yet, but I have a much better idea about where to start now!

    Thank you 💖

I hope your husband's surgery goes okay @Scooby222. I don't know much about accomodation, but you could contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service of the hospital the surgery is taking place to see if they have a list of recommendations at all?

If you end up staying at a hotel that is part of a chain I would email ahead about accessibility and requirements, they should be able to accommodate and maybe put certain preferences in place. I am sure a non-chain hotel would be able to do the same too, just chain hotels tend to be a little more consistent about it in my experience.
