Hi All
I looking for some information on mobility scooters that can fit in a car boot. Which are the better ones to get and use. I.E fold up types or the dismantle types???
Any information will be appreciated.
Thanks Phil
Fold-up ones for starters seem to cost the earth, dismantle you can get a pretty good one for a lot less, eg: Rascal Ultra Light 480
A lot of things to take into consideration, weight, its range as in miles, how long to recharge, battery removal and the ability to get you about, weight carrying restrictions (without being rude)
comfort, pneumatic tyres (more comfortable) or solid puncture-proof tyres (feel every bump)
You probably need to look at a class 2 mobility scooter (4mph) as a class 3 (8mph) does not normally come apart and is a lot bigger, heavier

A major part of the overall weight is the battery - but LEAD acid batteries are a lot heavier than LITHIUM batteries but cost a lot less !!
You really need a LITHIUM powered one rather than LEAD acid - because not only the weight but also charging life is much much better !
The cheapest scooters will come with HEAVY lead acid batteries - so if you can afford it, spend a little more and get a LITHIUM powered one.
Also, lead acid batteries (AGM) last around 2-3 years and then need replacing and lithium will last a lot longer if looked after and maintained
Very good idea, I know a few people who have done the same, they fold up so they will easily fit in a car boot and you can also get them with a seat, a lot lighter due to most being lithium, and the tec is pretty good compared to mobility scooters ( MS are so far behind all other electric vehicles) also a lot cheaper as MS seem to be hiked up in prices compared to what they actual cost to build, (I am a MS mechanic and engineer)
Their range and speed are by far superior
That being said as far as the law stands they are only supposed to be used on private land
Thanks for all the replies.
There’s been a bit of a development, I’ve got a fold up lithium battery one to test, I be trying it around the classic bike show. I’ve also had a pull apart type given to me (picking it up on Saturday)
It’s apparently not had much use but is missing the charger, I’m thinking of fitting two new lithium batteries to it which come with a charger. When I get it home I’ll go over it to see what condition it’s in before I buy anything for it. I think it’s an ultralite 480 just by looking at some pictures.
The value must be greater than or equal to 1.
