Migration from esa to uc
hello all
I have made a new claim for UC on Saturday, I had a migration letter and was in the support group of esa
I’ve applied for an advance to see me through but the payment I presume includes my rent? And this is where it confused me because it would be near where what I usually get on esa and tax credits, is this right? I’m getting so stressed worrying about it,
it also doesn’t say anywhere that I’ve migrated over so is it basically a new claim? How do I tell them about me moving across for esa
they’ve made me an appointment in the job centre next week I’ve no idea what for
sorry if I’m rambling I’m just so worried about it all
thanks in advance x

To be clear, not everyone is entitled to Transitional Protection. (TP) It will depend on the figures between the previous benefits and what their maximum UC entitlement is. If the UC is less than their previous benefits then TP will be included in the calculation.
@kitkatkaty4 your UC will include standard allowance, LCWRA element, housing element and child element, if it was child tax credits you were previously claiming, as well as any other elements you maybe entitled to.
If any part of your ESA was Income Related this will continue for 2 weeks, the same for housing benefit.
It may take a few weeks for ESA to send your details across but once they have your claim will be updated with that information.
You may also be asked to provide a fit note but this isn't needed because you're in the Support Group for ESA.

thank you 😁 my first advance payment is that the same as what I will get each month? On the payments section it just says we get standard allowance and we have four children and that we may be affected by the benefit cap which we were not before because of support group award
it’s all very confusing 🫤 thanks again0 -
The advance payment may not reflect what your maximum entitlement maybe. If they still need to verify things like children, rent and the Support Group then the advance payment offered now will be less.
Once they've verified the above then your advance payment offer will be increased.
You are correct that you're not affected by the benefit cap but at the moment UC do not know that.

Hello @kitkatkaty4, welcome to the Scope community 😊 I hope we can help you get the right information! It can be quite confusing sometimes. Could I ask what the ages of your kids are? Are they all under 16/18?

Hi and thank you it’s good to be here 😁
my children are 6, 7, 11 and 15
thanks in advance it’s so overwhelming0 -
If your youngest child was born after 6th April 2017 then you won't receive any child element for them. If they claim a disability benefit then you will still receive the disabled child element.
