pip appointee

Hi, my son is on pip and I, Mum, am his appointee. we have recently started a UC claim for him and they asked about being his appointee and if I was, his benefit would be paid into my account. I did not want that as I wanted to help him start budgeting. They assured me I would still be his appointee for pip. A pip payment did not go in yesterday and there is no reason why it should not have. I wonder if they have paused it, My question, Can I be an appointee for pip but not for UC or are the two connected? Thanks

They never used to be linked but now they are. They may wonder why you're his appointee for PIP and didn't want to be for UC. However, I can't be certain that was the reason why payment wasn't received yesterday and only PIP can tell you for certain. Did you ring them? If not then you will need to do that.
Are you 100% certain he's capable of managing his own UC claim? It would mean he's responsible for everything, including reporting any changes, returning the UC50 form and answering any questions himself during any work capability assessment, if he's reported his health condition.

Hi @Yayyay, welcome to the community 😊 I think it is great to give your so a chance to budget his own money. Poppy is correct however, when someone becomes an appointee they take over everything related to the DWP for that person. PIP, UC, ESA, Access to Work, anything managed by the DWP.
It may be best to set up a separate account in his name that you can transfer money to help him experience and learn to manage money?
About the missing payment, it is probably best to contact them to figure out the exact reason.
Let us know how you get on.

H thank you, I have rung PIP just now and it has been paused because as you say when you cancel appointee for one it cancels for all DWP. I did not know this and was informed wrongly. I now have to go through the whole process again, He needs an appointee as he even struggled with the security questions just now. Not right if he has to ask me the answers to the security questions before they can speak to me. I have just submitted the UC50 and I do everything concerning his journal etc so I guess he really does need me as his appointee, it just seems wrong to have his UC go into my account when PIP goes into his own account. I shall set up a regular standing order so that it goes straight across. Thank you for your help
