Hello,

I don't know if this is technically a game, but I wasn't sure where else to put this.

What was the last thing you baked/cooked that you thought "oohhh that was nice" or that it was worth the effort? And do you have a tip on how to do it.

I'll start…

Yesterday, I decided to bake bread, I wasn't sure about the proving and the kneading, but I did it.

Tips:

  1. You can use the oven light to prove your bread, I discovered.
  2. Mixing with a spatula is quite good at kneading.

What's yours?

    French bread pizza

Cut in half and covered in pizza toppings, popped under the grill, was really nice

I made vegan scones and my tip for baking is have a go. I don’t really like cooking and I don’t always feel like it but I had a go and they were delicious will make some more soon!

Some great tips already. I'm not much of a baker but have been wanting to try baking bread myself. Will try out the spatula for kneading @Autism_at_40!

We do the oil and salt but hadn't thought to try the metal skewer, thanks @vikki66.

@Sandy_123, French bread pizza sounds like a really quick and tasty dinner that even my kids might eat, thanks for the idea

@osrbsj, just giving it a go is an excellent tip, I know I can get in my head about whether it'll go right but you're right, I should just give it a go anyway!

    @Sandy_123 😁

Yes, it was nice thank you. Always best straight out of the oven with some real butter on, yum… Had a bacon sarnie with it yesterday too.

As winter is on the way, we enjoy hotpot with a pastry top.

I don't bake very often, but the last thing I baked properly was a huge chocolate cake for someone's birthday. It was this recipe and it came out so big I split it into two separate cakes:

The Ultimate Gluten Free Chocolate Cake - The Loopy Whisk

My tip would be to either have a print out or copy out the recipe/ingredients onto a piece of paper so you can physically cross things off as you add them to the bowl. That way you're much less likely to forget to add something in 😊

Rock Cakes are a favourite in our house. Easy to make and very easy to eat. Specially straight from the oven.

    Rough puff pasty.

Tip: Make sure you turn it before you roll it out. I didn't and it didn't rise very well. (I realised my mistake when I watched GBBO)
