How long does PIP decision take?

I’ve only just joined.
I do have a question I had my first assessment for pip on the 26th off September and got a text on Wednesday the 2nd off October saying I’ll have a decision anything up to 8 weeks.
So I was wondering if anyone has any advice on if it takes this long. I did have a really lovely lady that asked a lot off questions and did let me give loads off details.
im just worried as I’ve been off work since February and worried as I didn’t have any evidence at the time as was on diagnosed with chiari 1 malformation and waiting to see the neurosurgeon this week Thursday the 10th off October. You also hear all these horror stories and and I’m struggling financially but unable to go back to work as I struggle with most things in general. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated

Decisions can take up to 12 weeks after the assessment report was returned to DWP. Once a decision is made you will be contacted.

Hey @Clare17, welcome to the Scope community 😊 It can take 8-12 weeks depending what region of the UK are in. For me it took 3-4 weeks to get a response. So it really can vary depending on the backlog in your area.
It can sometimes be good on reading up about the appeals process just incase it doesn't go your way however. Take a look at our advice page on it: Appealing a benefits decision | Disability charity Scope UK
There's a lot more there too!
I'm just gonna move this over to our PIP category incase you do have any further questions about your PIP application 🙂

Mine went back within an hour of my assessment not quite sure if that's a good thing or not, but this was a rearranged assessment as they rang and cancelled on 10th Oct due to sickness ( which can't be helped) so it's just a waiting game now. But hey ho 1 week down maybe 7 to go 😀

I've given in, requested my report which I really wish I hadn't incase it's not the news I'm wanting

Please remember that the report isn't the decision, it's a recommendation only. Although they often go with the recommendations, it has been known for them to go against it.
Any potential points that have been recommended will not be added up in the report. I'd advise you to use the PIP self test to transfer the dots from the report Into the self test and it will add anything up at the end.

Thank you Poppy I'm not sure I will open it, been in this position before. I did cheekily ask the case worker if she could see the report today but she said she couldn't but would send it out. She was lovely tho x
