How would I cope with vouchers?

Hi I've been disabled for 30 year. It started with what doctors said was arthritis then it was fibromyalgia then depression kicked in then agoraphobia followed 2 heart attacks and then copd. Oh I've missed out diabetes and more depression and pain from arthritis and depression.....couldn't get much !!! oh but it can I've got short term memory loss caused by heart disease but they aren't doing anything about it and my memory isn't improving. I pay for taxis and help with shopping and people (family member)sleeping over if I'm not well.... how would I get on with paying what I do with vouchers

Hi @cazzyt123 and welcome to the community. You certainly have a lot going on, sorry you're having to deal with so much.

Are you referring to possible PIP vouchers? There's lots of speculation about them at the moment but we don't have any definitive answers yet. Your post highlights potential issues with changing to vouchers and I don't see how the government would be able to effectively support disabled people if they began using them. Scope will make an announcement as soon as we know what is happening.

It's a tough time at the minute with not knowing what's happening. There'll be lots of other members who can empathise with you. We just have to try and carry on and try not to worry too much until we get some answers.

I honestly don't think this ridiculous voucher scheme will get off the ground because it would be far too complicated to implement it and lets face it, it will not actually save the government any money because the vouchers will cost the government and they would have to pay beurocrats wages to deal with a voucher scheme.

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling to get help with some of your conditions. Is it an issue with your GP or with the hospital?

About the PIP vouchers, that is just speculation at the moment like Rachel mentions. It really doesn't seem workable and seemed to have just been an idea briefly floated around by the previous government without much thought put into it.

Rishi Sunak suggested the vouchers out of desperation and for red meat for his core supporters. IIn Practice, they are unworkable, as every claimant of PIP needs are unique and the vouchers are very restrictive.

It's understandable that people will be worried about it. There are places online that are playing on the fears about it. We have to have some compassion there, some media sites are playing on their fears and they're worried. Not everybody knows where to confirm if these things are true or not, or likely or not.

There will be no change to PIP payments - please, everyone stop speculating and creating a fear amongst members - PIP will carry on being paid as it has the last 10 years +

Any changes would be virtually impossible for any government to implement due to the numbers involved.

You wont cope with vouchers, because they wont be any vouchers. Thats all there is to it.
