DIFFICULTY IN COOKING

Hi Folks

I was born with right hemiplegia and have spasticity in my right hand. On top of that, my right side is severely weaker than my left.

My wife does all the cooking but now, due to increasing living costs, she has found a full time job, so at various times of the day I need to cook for myself.

I cannot peel or slice fruit nor vegetables.

Can anyone advice what type of meals I could prepare and what type of equipment I could use?

Thanks

When my hand was injured, I used a kitchen guillotine knife with table attachment.

Important! There should be a separate knife for raw meat and raw fish. Another knife for ready-to-eat foods.

    Hi @geek84

I'm in the same position as you. My husband does the majority of the cooking, as I can't chop veg and struggle with packaging. We do a lot of batch cooking on weekends or when my husband is home and he makes lots of healthy dishes.

I also buy ready chopped vegetables, although I am aware these are more expensive. When it's my turn to cook, I make pasta and curry dishes, mainly using jar ingredients. I can manage to put chops and fish in the oven and we buy frozen chips and sweet potato fries.

It takes me slightly longer to get the meal ready, but there is a sense of accomplishment when I've done it.

It's all about finding what works for you. One thing I've never mastered is cutting bread items.

I'm in the same position as some of you guys I end up getting the low calories range from M&S microwave meals I have tried Wiltshire Farm Foods and Oakhouse foods but they are very bland and not nice at all
