Hi I've just joined the forum and I'm looking for advice regarding financial implications of moving in with.my partners,it's basically a new relationship and we've only known one another for just over 4.months now, however we've discussed possibly living together but I don't know how this would affect our benefit entitlements and I'm already in debt and finding it pretty tough money wise

I'm currently on Esa income related and in the support group i receive £318 a fortnight currently, I also receive pip at standard rate for both elements and receive £404 monthly as I'm currently living at.my friends house ,my partner has a rented propertyand gets help with the rent from universal credit, she is currently on universal credit lcwra , not working any hours, and is on pip both elements but I'm not sure if it's high rate or standard, can anyone help me work out the financial implications of moving in with my partner please

If you move in together your partner will need to report a change of circumstances by logging into their journal, if they have access to one and tell them you're living together. They will then be sent a linking code.

You will need to start a claim yourself and use the linking code to join both claims together.

Your Income Related ESA will continue for 2 weeks and then stop. Your UC will include just one LCWRA element, even though you're in the Support Group, this is because there's only 1 LCWRA element per claim.

As your partner is also claiming daily living PIP if no one is claiming either carers allowance or carers element of UC for looking after them then you can claim that for them. Your UC will then include 1 LCWRA element and 1 carers element.

If your partner is currently claiming single person discount for council tax they will lose that if you move in with them.

If any part of your ESA is contributions based, this will continue but be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

Hi @Georgep66, welcome to the community. Looks like you've already had a really detailed response from Poppy, but I just wanted to pop in to say hello and welcome! It's a tough decision to make, but I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do next 😊
