Benefits and inheritance
Good morning.
I wonder if anyone knows the answer to my question.
I am in receipt of esa contribution based with universal top up and uc also pays my rent. I am disabled and have high rate care and mobility. I am in Scotland and have been moved to adult disability payment from pip.
I have just been told I have been left money by a deceased relative which will probably be over £16000.
I have been told it is possible to ask to have this issued in a disabled persons trust so I can use the money over the years for equipment and to do things in my house to make life easier. I don't know where to find out about this or if it is too late now my relation has gone.
I know it would not affect my ADP or ESA but I worry about my UC and having to face the whole stressful process of reapplying once the money goes below the limit.
AAny Advice would be appreciated

I believe with an inheritance, there has to have been a Will stating the money to be placed in a trust.
So I suspect it is too late.
Because you get ESA, your status will carry over when you need to re apply for UC.
So if you are in Support Group, you'd be entitled to LCWRA from the start although it can take a few weeks for this to be confirmed.
