our circumstances changed . We have a multi pet household 2 of which are on regular treatments . We have been accepted for 1 pet to be treat free which I will donate to if I have to use them. Our other pets can be treat medicated at low cost . Does anyone use the low cost part of the pdsa ? Is there a big difference in costs than using regular vets please ? I need to do

My homework to see where I can save money

More , either by sticking with my independent vet or using the pdsa low cost services . Thank

You

    Hi

Our PDSA are no longer allowing new registrations (cardiff) even pets that have been previously registered for years.

They are not even doing emergencies.

I dread to think about the amount of suffering animals out there because of this.

aww I know poor things 😔 I’ve never had a penny for anything for last 2 years to take care of mine . I’ve even borrowed for operations . I love my fur kids I could not see them suffer x

    It's scary isn't it.

I feel like they want to make it as difficult as possible for people to own pets these days.

Years ago alot of vets would let you pay off bills in installments.

It's all about money now x

Try Blue Cross - www.bluecross.org.uk. They can treat or help with the costs if you are on means tested benefits I believe. I agree that pets bring so much comfort and I wouldn’t be without my cat.

The pdsa is alot cheaper than a regular vet for a 2nd pet. Consultation is around £25 where a regular vet is £40/£50.

    Also medication is cheaper.

I’m a big supporter of animal rescue . All my animals are rescues . I’ve worked the shelters I always support the pdsa even if it’s bags of clothes etc for the shops . I’d never take advantage . I’m glad they’ve tightened up the rules . Especially with the ‘ Greeders’

I hear what you are saying although i wouldnt say what ive said is unfair its just a fact really.Im aware of how the PDSA works and why it is struggling.

Lots of people including myself will have had pets registered for years before everything that has gone on in recent times and have paid for the service as we should..Not expecting a free lunch or anything at all, but is a bit disconcerting when the rug gets pulled out from under your feet.

I can understand you feel that way, however charitable subsidised services are always subject to balancing demand with funding and staffing.

They shouldn't be thought of as services that will always be there to pick up the pieces.

I volunteer for an animal charity that deals primarily with rehoming, so I am speaking from some experience.

We do not enjoy saying no to people and animals in need, but often what the public don't see is we have to, because behind the scenes our fosterers are full and a dozen more animals waiting to come in.

yea I’ve got a vet like that proper old fashioned family type set up . Been with him for years . He doesn’t keep charging if you have to go back either even though I stand at counter waiting to pay everytime . I’m just preparing myself incase I do have to look for help with costs and just wanted to know is the pdsa low cost going to be cheaper than my vet. There’s not that many independent vets left now . They are worth their weight in gold❤️ I knows that feeling lol I don’t bat an eye lid at providing for my rescue fur crew but anything for me I’m like I’m not paying that lol . My pets are family I really do love them my life would be a lot poorer without them they bring me so much joy , I’ve always had animals since I was a baby we’ve never had a pet less home . Please don’t go without food your fur babies need you x
