New style esa

I'm unable to work following a stroke.
I'm self employed and have a property portfolio and dividend from another company.
I've been told despite my wealth / income that I can cliam new esa.
Some will say I have income why should I apply, however I feel I have paid into the system for years so i should get something back.

Yes put claim in for PIP.
The esa question was a difficult one.
Yes I've paid my contributions and will still be paying them in my next tax return. I will still be paying a considerable amount of tax etc.
It does say though you can't earn more than £153 when you phone the claim line, yet nothing about income when you apply online other than pension income, I'm 45

Permitted work rules apply for ESA and it’s less than 16 hours per week, with a maximum earnings of £183.50/week. You must tell them if you’re continuing to work.

It can be backdated for a maximum of 3 months providing your earnings weren’t more than the maximum amount during that time.
I’m unsure how dividends would affect it. If you have income from multiple properties then this may also cause problems.
