Becoming an appointee

Hello everyone, my name is Paula and I am going to act as Appointee for my nephew in his claim. I have started the claim and am finding this whole process a complete unknown so wanted to join your forum for all the amazing info you know that I don't. I'm not sure if we speak to robots when we phone for a new claim but already, I found it a very strange experience. Anyway, I will do one step at a time to get him the help he needs and hope that I negotiate this minefield well for him.

Hi @PaulaandBilly, welcome to the Scope community 😊 Becoming an appointee is a pretty big step, how far into the process are you so far? I know you mention you've started the claim.
We do have some more information about becoming an appointee in our advice section: Become an appointee to manage someone’s benefits | Disability charity Scope UK
I hope this helps explain the process a little better if you haven't seen it already.

Thank you. You will need to ring to start the claim and tell them you would like to become his appointee. They will then arrange for a DWP rep to visit you and your Nephew in your home to fill out the forms. Once this is done the appointee will be put into place and the PIP form will be sent out to you. The form should not be sent out until all of that is done.

Thank you Poppy. I started the claim today and have been asked to phone them when I am with my nephew, which will be Friday. He lives with my sister and brother in law but they have many health issues which prevent them from being able to apply on my nephew's behalf. This is all such a new area so thank you for all your help so far x
