Hi can anyone help please with this dilemma we have ? both myself and husband claim uc as a joint claim, I also get lcwra , we received a note on our journal yesterday saying we need to have a claim review, we need 4 months of bank statements and photo I'd, I am absolutely worried sick because both my brother in law & mum in law gift us money every month to help with whatever we need, between them it's 225 month , we don't put the money in savings it does get used , we don't have any savings at all.we do use it mainly on the heating, as I need to feel constant warmth or my arthritis along with other things is terrible, we are now worried that our payment of uc will stop or we owe them money due to being voluntary gifted every month , we have been claiming uc now for 4 yrs and this is the first time to be called upon for a claim review, will they ring us to also do interview over the phone ? it doesn't say they will but my anxiety is doing summer salts thinking I need to explain what we spend our money on every month , due to my illness some stuff is private that I don't want to talk to them about ..please can someone possibly tell me what will happen regarding our family helping with money and do they ring also 🤔

Thank you ❤️

    Hi,

This is a standard review that is happening to thousands of UC claimants at the moment.

They may phone you to ask about a few of the payments after receiving the bank statements.

Monetary gifts are not counted as income, though you probably will be asked to confirm that it's not from any sort of work in this case.

Gifts are still counted as capital, but if you've never had more than £6000 across all accounts then there will not be any problem with that.

hi Thank you so much for your reply back I really appreciate it 😊, no we have never had any savings of any sort, my mother in law lives in Wales & the brother in law lives Norfolk, they both help us as unfortunately we don't live anywhere near any of them so they can't help out like they would like to, so they send financial help monthly to which we are extremely grateful 🙏, my husband has spoken to them both today and they are happy to confirm the money should uc want that information, we were absolutely terrified they would stop our money due to family help , I've sent the bank statements yesterday it just leaves photo Id once my husband tracks down his passport! it's all so confusing 😕 I don't know what's what tbh, it states that I should upload the information on uc , so once the bank statements went it was just showing (1).Next to my name , I believe that's showing one more commitment to do ( photo I'd) that's fine, however it's still showing (2 ) next to my husbands name obviously points towards bank statements & photo Id, but why does it say for me to do what is wanted from uc , yet my husband still has ( 2) next to his name, we share the bank ( not joint account) all of our bills ect all come out of it so how can he send anything when I'm doing it , or will it all clear off once I upload photo Id for us both ?? I'm absolutely confused.com , so sorry if it's confusing for you too 😔 X

You're welcome. 🙂 I would put a message on the journal to say that you both share the same bank account. Then they should be able to clear that request from your husbands to do list.

can i ask how yours is going? I have only claimed for a year and got a message about a review today. Im worried sick as i also get money from my parents and a friend to help me as im a single mum and been struggling since finishing my degree and being able to start work. I have sent payments to my friend as ive been trying to pay him back where i can but then end up needing to borrow off him again to get by. Feel so sick with worry.

can you tell me .what questions they asked you on review time.my review is on monday

First they will run through a series of scripted questions to identity any other sources of money, property, premium bonds, ISA's etc.

Then they will ask some questions about your bank transactions, which might not make any sense (mine didn't).

As Kimmy says, they will ask you some straightforward Yes / No questions about your savings and other accounts you might have such as Paypal or Revolut. I had to provide 4 months' worth of Paypal statements following the call. They sent me a link on my Journal to upload the statements. They might also ask you one or two questions regarding outgoings on your bank statements - they are certainly not concerned about your spending habits or what you have purchased. I was asked about my rent payments - how much and to whom. A normal question given that I receive the housing element of UC. Have your current account statements in front of you ready for the call.

Try not to worry - it is a painless formality.

    Best wishes

During my review they were very interested in my spending habits!

I was asked about outgoings including broadband, rent, credit card payments, and my window cleaner, who costs me a whole £12 per month 😂

You're claiming UC as a couple, not just yourself. UC is a means tested benefit so you can't claim as a single person if you live together. They will want statements from both of your bank accounts, not just yours.
