Migration to U.C

HI,

My wife and I are in the process of migrating to U.C. My wife works 22 hrs per week and received tax credits . I am in receipt of C.B Esa Support group and Pip enhanced rate for both care and mobility. I have Parkinsons with Dystonia We were both separately requested to go to the benefits office but I could not and my wife explained to them that she would give them al they needed to complete my part because I wasn't physically able to. They accepted this arrangement.

The questions I want to ask is 1)why are they still demanding a fit note on my to do list. 2) What happens to my C.B esa payments to my account and 3)the safeguards I had from the Support Group in terms of no more assessments .

I wish my wife and I had prepared better for this U.C migration but unfortunately we can't go back now once it's started.

I'm new to your community so I apologise if I have not been clear enough with my questions .

I look forward to hearing from you on this matter

KInd Regards

J

1)The UC system has picked up that you have a health condition, but not that you are migrating from ESA SG.

If you haven't already, put a note on your journal explaining this.

It will then take a few weeks for ESA to communicate your award to UC.

    2) Your CB ESA will convert automatically into New Style ESA, and will be paid separately from UC, fortnightly at a rate of £276.40.

This will be deducted in full (£598 odd) from each UC payment.

As UC is a monthly benefit and ESA weekly, the numbers may initially look wrong, but are in fact right.

    3) You will be in the Support Group for NS ESA.

You will have a commitments appointment, you can request a phone call.

The commitment you'll be asked to agree to is usually a formality of you keeping them informed of any changes.

In terms of "no more assessments" I'm assuming you fall under Severe Conditions.

As the UC50 assessment form is identical to ESA50 (hybrid claimants are assessed under UC50) then I can't see that anything would change for you.

Heya @Jimmy7 and welcome to the community.

I can see you're already receiving some help with your questions, but I just wanted to stop by and say a quick hello. 😊

    HI Kimmy,

Thank you so much for your quick and reassuring informative response .

I would just like to add that my wife presented my ongoing pip and cb esa support group statements from the DFC and was told they did not require this information. My wife is going to ring them tomorrow regarding the requested sick note but I will place what you have suggested on my journal .

Just one last question, will this migration to NS ESA affect in anyway the national insurance contributions that I have built up.

Many thanks for your most helpful response

    Kind Regards

    Jimmy

No, it will not affect your NI contributions and you'll continue to receive class 1 for New style ESA.

Your partner can also claim carers element of UC for looking after you because there's no earnings limit to this like there is with carers allowance. If she didn't report caring for you when she filled out the form then she needs to report a change of circumstances and click caring for someone and report it through there.

As a carer she will have no work commitments.

    HI Poppy ,

That is so reassuring to hear and we will definitely claim for the carers element because we were not aware of the no earnings limit . I forgot to add that we live in N.Ireland but I think the rules are the same.

Once again thanks a million for your most helpful and informative reply

    Kind Regards

You're welcome. Yes, I noticed you were in N.Ireland because you mentioned DFC. The rules are the same nationally.
