Another UC one!

Hello
I have been in receipt of UC because my 17 year old son has complex needs. Without warning they suddenly started means testing my UC entitlement even though my son is still receiving full time non advanced education and I am getting Child Benefit. Nothing about our situation has actually changed and I am very confused!
Have they got it wrong or did I miss something?
Many thanks in advance.

Universal Credit has always been means tested.
What exactly has happened with your UC? Does it still include the child element for your son? Are you still receiving the same element as always?
Sorry but more information is needed for help to be given.

When I was transferred to UC from CTC I made a full declaration of my savings. My son was part of my UC and it was not means tested. I have been in receipt of it for a few years now. Nothing has actually changed in our circumstances but they have suddenly decided to means test it and have stopped payments. My son is still in FT non advanced education so I still get Child benefit. It makes no sense. UC Helpline couldn't help either.

Hello @dwill
Have you been claiming UC for around a year?

Hello
Yes I think it was transferred from CTC a year ago.

Hello @hermit22. Please try not to cause worry to other members. There are rules regarding how long you can spend outside the UK, but Universal Credit does not monitor where people go. They should only impose sanctions if people do not complete their work-related commitments outlined in their claimant commitments.

You should have been made aware that you would receive a 12-month transitional protection period, during which you can still claim even if your savings exceed £16,000. However, for income-related benefits like Universal Credit, there is a savings limit of £16,000, meaning that claimants with savings above this amount are not eligible for Universal Credit. Additionally, those with savings between £6,000 and £16,000 may see deductions from their claim.
Unfortunately, if you have above £16,000 you won't be eligible for Universal Credit.

Ah yes Morgan I remember the 1 year migration period now.
It would have been nice if they had sent out a reminder that the period was about to end.
Thank you very much for your help.

I agree @dwill, I'm surprised and find it very unfair that they don't. Even a reminder on your journal a month or two before would be helpful.

Do you still have capital of more than £16,000?
