Hello,

I am currently claiming Job Seekers allowance. I am fully wheelchair bound, my job seekers is about to end.

I have a condition called Alexander's Leukodystrophy, I have had this disability since I was 2 years of age. I am now 30 years old.

When my job seekers finishes could I go straight on to universal credit?

Universal Credit is means tested so whether there's any entitlement will depend on your circumstances. If you live with a partner you'll need to claim as a couple and your joint circumstances will be taken into consideration.

Is it New style JSA you're claiming? If so and your health condition limits your capability to work you can claim New style ESA. If you claim ESA and UC together the ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

You will need a fit note to claim ESA.

Have you received a migration letter to claim UC? If so then you'll need to claim UC by the date in the letter. If you don't then your JSA will stop.

If your health condition limits your capability to work then you'll need to make sure you report your health condition and provide a fit note (formally known as a sick note)

Citizens Advice have a help to claim phone number and they will help, support and guide you through the process.

Your father’s UC will not include money for you. You need to claim it yourself in your name.

Okay, because my father is claiming UC. It does not affect what I would be getting? Is that correct?

That's correct, for UC purposes you are counted as separate claims even though you share a household.

Yes, the same applies now to your JSA it's not affected by your dad's UC.
