Housing benefit or UC

hi all
I’m confused about what will happen. Currently IR ESA support group and PIP enhanced both. I live with my dad, he’s in a council property. I’m named on the tenancy and HB.
If I were to move would I be able to claim HB (same council borough but private landlord) or will I have to move to UC. I don’t really want to move over by choice as I won’t receive transitional protection that I would get with managed migration.
to be honest Universal credit completely baffles me, so any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks

Hi,
As you would be moving to a private rental, and don't currently rent privately, I'm fairly sure you would have to claim UC for the housing element in this case.
If you were moving from private rental to another private rental within the same borough then you could stay on the old Housing Benefit until the migration.
UC is really not that difficult though. And as you live with your Dad, you may be better off on UC and not get any Transitional Protection anyway. Does he have a health condition that allows you to claim SDP with your ESA?

That's not correct. Moving to the same local Authority would not be a change of circumstances that will prompt a move to UC regardless of whether it's privately renting or social/council housing. It's moving to a different local Authority that would mean a claim for UC.
For entitlement to SDP they would be entitled to this if their father is either registered blind or claims a qualifying disability benefit their self, such as PIP daily living, DLA mid/high rate care or AA.
