Have you tried asking for a needs assessment from your local authority? They can look at what support he may need.

Just to clarify, your son has already been diagnosed with a specific learning difficulty in the past or you are trying to not get a referral for an assessment and your GP is saying no?

I’m in the same boat my son is 38 but never been assessed by anyone! He’s been to the doctors on few occasions to discuss his problems but for no joy. They did mention however he could get a diagnosis but the waiting list could be over 2yrs! I’ve always known from the very beginning as a mother that something wasn’t right with him, and always knew he had something like ADHD which is the only thing they virtually knew about at the time. He always struggled at school too. But didn’t get no help! I begged and begged but one doctor I saw blamed me, by saying well if you cant get cope with the way he is, the only thing to do is to admit you to hospital, and put him in care!! Of course I was terrified and never went back. As he’s grown obviously I know now that he’s on the spectrum for autism. I work around him now as he lives with me, certain smells I can’t buy, and certain noises he can’t stand to hear some kinds of noises, and many many more. He’s on UC normal rate job seekers and claiming carers allowance for me as I have multiple sclerosis?, and various other conditions! Can you tell me will we be better off on this? And by how much? Or not bother keeping it because I’m on full PIP and ESA. My son can’t work for sure the amount of jobs he’s had is unbelievable and he’s ended up leaving every one of them. Sorry for the essay btw I just wanted to get everything in 😊. Can anyone help me or advise me on what to do as we are really struggling money wise I can’t even pay some important bills?
Thanking you all ☺️😊
