Experiences of recruiting private caregivers/PA’s

that’s awful-I can totally understand your frustration I too struggle enormously at the beginning, eventually having to settle for Homecare m, absolutely nightmare, as i said before. I can only afford 4 hours a week meaning 3 days a week I have to do the best I can as well as in the morning. With Homecare I had 30 minutes in each morning and 45 minutes each evening. So I clearly can empathise with you.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I can’t cope with care agencies either because of the same reason, it’s so unnecessarily stressful.
It’s a shame you can’t get Direct Payments. I completely understand what you mean about the target market for most services, they don’t cater for disabled people like us, it seems as though our needs are too specialist. I wish it was easier too, good care is so important for quality of life. I hope at some point you are able to achieve your goals such as go on holiday, have a social life etc they are similar if not the same as any other non disabled person!
Sorry you had such a bad experience hiring your own PA, I completely understand how that impact your choice to hire another person in the future.
Ditto.

@smokey18 I think the cost of private and agency PAs is higher. If it was £11 ph I’d be able to get 8 hours for the cost of 3 or four hours. My partner has just reassured me it’s okay. We don’t live together and it’s early days still so I don’t want to be a burden but I guess it helps that someone cares.
