Meeting other disabled people
Where do you go to meet other disabled people. I want to go out , and socialise more in general. I always seem to end up at places that have lots of ppl from one disability group. So I end up leaving and not going back. I have a bad scoliosis but I can walk. And it would me nice to socialise with people who can walk , and without serious mental health issues.

The ones in my area are no good for me.

Have you looked into any walking clubs in your area at all? I of course cannot guarantee how many disabled people would be a part of them, but the ones I know in mine are generally very welcoming and have a good diversity of people.

Walking is not a thing for me because I get short of breath because of my scoliosis.

I feel exactly the same way as OP - I live in a tiny little rural village with no disabled people around me and all the friends I do have are spread around different places right now so I feel totally alone, any tips as to what to do about it?

Don’t feel too bad, I live in one of the biggest cities in the world and there’s still nothing.

Hi Ziadawn, Have you looked at the U3A? I have not joined but really wanted to because of my isolation, however, I do not know sorry if the people are disabled or not. It's 10.00 a year to join and they have different classes (I was interested in the Archeology/Family History and Events). Sadly, I cannot get on buses etc for Events and some classes are afternoons when I'm not awake! I am mostly housebound and cannot walk more than c 50 feet. The last time I socialised was 7 Dec 2019 !! Being a hermit is not much fun. I do hope you find what you're looking for.

Hello! Why do you specifically want to meet people with disabilities? For example, I meet different people by chance in completely unexpected places. Transport, work, hospital, store...

If there is nothing you want to join in with, then that sounds like a great opportunity for you to start something yourself.
Every existing group people join has to start with an organiser, someone has to do it or nothing would ever happen 🙂

The reason I want to meet up with other disabled people is to be friends, and see if we connect for a relationship later. I find this really difficult to do as my soulmate died last year, and I always said I would stay single if the worst happened. But its hard living alone with no family or friends to meet up with. I force my self to go out because life is short, and its the only one I have.
Able boded ppl can pxxs me off some times. You say hello to some to be social, and they act like its a wedding invitation. I don't have problems as far as going to some hobby group.
I chat to online disabled groups but a lot of them are rife with trolls, and scammers from all areas of the world. And people with no social skills trying to hook up with women that say no because they are married.

Have you tried the meet up app? There are heaps of groups listed on the , though not neccecarily for disabled people in particular. There are plenty of activities that disabled people could potentially do and meet others at the same time. It depends on what your interests are? Have you thought about doing an evening class?

I have met some of the Emmerdale cast working round my area. And I met one of the bikers when he was buying his new Harley Davidson.

Hello all, Im intrigued by this question also. I live in the sticks and dont see my friends as much anymore as I felt really needy asking for lifts. It's one of the reasons why Im really looking forward to work again.

@Ziadawn , Have you tried contacting your Local ParkRun/ParkWalk group? They are friendly in my area and there are always disabled people and trails are accessible and disabled friendly (atleast in my area). The name can put people off but you can walk as well. I’ve even seen wheelchair users in my group. sadly , I couldn’t go to my local one due to my own issues . If you are keen, it’s worth giving a try!!. Best wishes 😊
