He must report the changes. Has any of his other circumstances changed?

Whether his son living with him affects his benefits will depend on exactly what benefits he's claiming.

If he's claiming for help with the rent then there could potentially be issues with that too. Impossible to advise without know more details from this person.

He won't be sanctioned for this, as sanctions relate to not meeting the work-related requirements of your claim. However, he could face consequences for fraud if he claims money he's not entitled to or deliberately fails to report changes in circumstances that affect his claim. The sooner he reports the change, the better.

He also needs to make sure he reports his son living with him. Same applies to council tac reduction, he must report that his son is living with him. If he's claiming single person discount then there could be issues here.

If he's claiming for help with the rent and he didn't report the change of address for UC, does this mean he's been claiming for help with the rent for his previous address? If so there's going to be problems with that.

How old is his son can I ask @helenzx6r? That can make a difference as to whether much will change. UC should still know any dependents or non-dependents they live with however.

Then unless the son or the father are either claiming a qualifying disability benefit such as PIP or Adult Disability Payment (ADP) daily living, DLA mid/high rate care or AA there will be a non dependant deduction of £91.47/month.

If there's a shortage of housing element towards their rent then they'll also be entitled to an extra bedroom.

If the PIP includes daily living part then there's no non dependant deductions for UC. He still needs to report that he's living there.
