PIP mobility claim for purpose of motability

Hello everyone.
I'd like to ask about the mobility component of pip and to explain my circumstances. I currently get enhanced daily living and standard mobility (10 points) but I want to apply for motability driving lessons. This is because really and truly I have suffered in my life meaning I haven't been able to achieve much and at least wanna learn how to drive which I know will equal numerous lesson costs. My condition is Psychosis and for mobility I get the descriptor saying I experience overwhelming psychological distress. To be honest, I have just come out of hospital and feel better as a result of new medication. My pip review is gonna be after 27 October 2024 they said so it hasnt been long really. Should i wait for their form or update them with a change of circumstances aiming for enhanced mobility to help me pay for driving lessons. As I say, I believe I really deserve this and this could be my break in life

Whether it's possible to score 12 points for Enhanced mobility will depend on how your conditions affect you. As you currently scored 10 points for activity 1E which means on the majority of days you're unable to undertake any journey.
If you're still unable to undertake any journey on the majority of days then this will still apply. Even if you're able to go out "sometimes"
Changes must have also be present for at least 3 months and expect to last at least a further 9 months.
How often are you able to go out?

Hello @poppy123456
Thanks for replying
I don't go out often ,I don't know how much but it says on my decision letter 'evidence suggests you don't go out on majority of days due to severe anxiety'
I guess there's only one descriptior that would enable me to get the further 2 points which i think is about something like going on a familiar journey with someone idk, I think it's 1F on the list.
The reasons I really wanna learn to drive is for the sense of independence, to gain a social life and help my mum who is a carer for me and my autistic brother. He actually qualifies for enhanced mobility but I don't think he can learn how to drive. It would also really give me a sense of fulfillment of actually acheiving for once.
I've been in psychiatric hospital in October but I'm not gonna lie something has improved after the hospital, they gave me a new medication.
Can I argue that due to my impairment I can't go on a familiar journey without overwhelming psychological distress. Because one episode I had in 2021 or 2022 I tried to travel from station to my home and I couldn't recognise where I was hence I called the CMHT to literally tell me to go left and right and follow this sign because although I went to a familiar place which was the shopping centre i did not know where I was but I was having an episode.

As on the majority of the days you're unable to go out at all then I'm afraid this descriptor scoring 10 points is correct. (majority refers to at least 50% of the days over a 12 month period)
There's no argument here that due to your impairment you can't go on a familiar journey. If 1E applies then 1F can't apply. Even if there's times where you are able to go out, even with another person.
You can still learn to drive and pay for the lessons yourself. Unfortunately to access the grant on the Motability scheme you must either have a Motability vehicle or expect delivery of a vehicle within the next 4 months. You could then apply for a grant for help with driving lessons.
You won't be able to access the scheme with standard mobility.

Okay x
I think I would like to try anyway, so would you say I should wait for the renewal or update with change of circumstances?
