Hi, what happens to your ESA Support and UC when you reach state pension age?

Are you switched over to only getting the state pension?

    @CarolMCW

    If you are still receiving pip when you reach the state retirement age the award will continue until you are due to reapply, then just reapply as you would normally.

    Thank you my mistake.

    In that case esa will stop once you start receiving a state pension.

    I know your question wasn't about PIP, but do you get Daily Living PIP?

    If you do, there may be entitlement to Pension Credit.

    This does have to be applied for.

    ESA stops the day before you reach state pension age because it's a working age benefit. For UC it will depend on whether it's a single or joint claim with a partner.

    If single then this will stop on the last day of the assessment period after you reach state pension age. Any state pension you're entitled during that time will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

    If claiming with partner and your partner is younger than you then UC will continue but your state pension will be deducted in full. Whether there's any entitlement will depend on your joint circumstances.
