I think what egister is suggesting here is that if the government gave out bonuses on other religious holidays as well as Christmas, people could receive more bonuses throughout the year. Which would be better than just receiving one £10 bonus at Christmas.
Correct me if I'm wrong egister!

I am surprised that they don't try to tax it - it is income isn't it ?

Technically it's a gift @Wibbles 😉
1 -
No - that implies that 17.5 million receive it !!
more like 4 million - total cost £40 million
and had it increased with inflation over the 52 years that they have been paying it - it would be £135.89 which would have cost them £540 million in total.
UC claimants will no longer receive the payment from this year !

I suppose so - but they could tax gifts if they decided to….
via Gift tax - a form of inheritance tax / capital gains tax !
and that would be at 40% - leaving us with just £6

If you add up the qualifying benefits it's a fair few million that do receive it.
- Adult Disability Payment
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Carer Support Payment
- Child Disability Payment
- Constant Attendance Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
- Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (once the main phase of the benefit is entered after the first 13 weeks of claim)
- Disability Living Allowance
- Incapacity Benefit at the long-term rate
- Industrial Death Benefit (for widows or widowers)
- Mobility Supplement
- Pension Age Disability Payment
- Pension Credit - the guarantee element
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
- Severe Disablement Allowance (transitionally protected)
- Unemployability Supplement or Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
- War Disablement Pension at State Pension age
- War Widow’s Pension
- Widowed Mother’s Allowance
- Widowed Parent’s Allowance
- Widow’s Pension
It's possible that is 17.5 million people?

None of them. I would rather not have it and keep my benefits.

That's right. Additionally, I believe this will show the government’s favorable attitude towards all religions and will reduce tension in society.

Benefits are not related to bonuses.

having thought about this I used to have a budget of £10 for people but because I'm gaining income on other stuff I have raised it up to £20 and I think the bonus should be raised because of the cost of living especially for people who aren't working

The UK has paid $4.17bn (£3.36bn) in procuring its first 35 short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL)-configured F-35B Lightning II

No idea what this means
0 -
Apparently it's been the same for 50 years

It was introduced in the 70s and has never risen with inflation indeed. It was worth quite a bit over £100 of today's pounds when it was introduced. It really was intended to help a family have an actual christmas. It's just become more meaningless as inflation makes money worth less.

That puts it all into perspective doesn't it?

No I still have no idea what this on about 🤷

In short, the government spent a lot of money on some Military grade aeroplanes.
Which doesn't seem like such a bad idea given what's happening in Ukraine and the middle East right now.
The UK does need to keep spending on defence. I doubt Russia or China would be giving us more ill health benefits if they took over…
