hi my name is Jo

I have with my college. My son has a chronic illness. He has been struggling this term in his with his condition. now been a meeting and they are trying to suspend him from his studies. This will put a massive financial strain on the family as I am the single parent. I don’t know what to do whether to ask the college for a temporary suspension due to ill health and see how it goes after Christmas or whether to completely withdraw him from his studies, although I don’t want him to with has a limited capability of what he can do at the minute I would’ve still liked him to have studied the English and maths part of the course if he could because I feel this could be done at home even if he couldn’t make it into college

has anyone else had this problem? And if so, what did they do? College I’ve no non-supportive in every aspect. It’s had a bad effect now on his mental health as well I’ll be grateful if someone could help me and see what would the impact would be if he had to totally withdraw many thanks for reading

Hi Jo, I'm on the committee of a health support group and recently gave some advice to a parent struggling with similar.

My advice was to ask the College for details of their SEN officer, I also found a local support organisation that works with SEN children and their families.

I ran a Google search for "area name" + SEN.

If the College is being non co-operative then you can go above them to the local education department.

Your son might not have a EHCP but as a disabled person he falls under the SEN banner.

If you go onto your local authority website, the education section will have contact details specifically for their SEN support.
