New to universal credit and carer
Hi, I have a child who is disabled and receiving middle-rate DLA, and I also receive carer allowance as a full-time carer.
We both parents are looking after the child where only one receives carer allowances, etc., and we want to know if my wife needs to work as she is also caring for her unpaid as my child requires attention 24 hours a day due to the nature of the problem.
New to UC and they asked my wife to come for work commitments things to attend in person.
Pls advice

Only 1 person can claim either carers allowance or carers element for looking after your child. The person that claims either of those will not have any work commitments. Your wife can try to explain the situation to her work coach and see what they say but they maybe expected to look for work.
Do either of you have any health conditions that affect your ability to work? if so then you can report those to UC and provide a fit note, this will start the work capability assessment process off. If found to have LCWRA you will have no commitments.

thanks for your message.
If one parent is a carer than what is the minimum hours requirement to work for other parent ?

It can depend on many things, one of which is the age of your child. May I ask how old they are?
