For your first appointment, yes it's normal. At the moment they do not know you were claiming ESA. Put a message onto your journal, if you haven't already and tell them that you were claiming ESA making sure you tell them which group you were in.
If you're unable to attend this appointment in person due to your health conditions, you can ask for a reasonable adjustment for a telephone appointment. You need to tell them why you can't attend in person.
This appointment will be to either confirm your ID if that hasn't been done already and agree to your commitments.

Poppy123456. can I ask which group of ESA you were in.

@lulu28 the Job Centre appointment, although a pain to get to, meant that my wife and I had an actual human in front of us to pump for information, and it worked darn well. It is an opportunity for you to ask anything you are not sure of yet, and to clarify things, or correct them if you got something wrong the first time around.

I'm still claiming ESA and I'm in the Support Group. Do you have a recent letter from ESA that gives a breakdown of what's included with your ESA payments? If so have a look on there and it will tell you which group.
If you don't I maybe able to work out which group if you can tell me how much you were receiving every fortnight.

As others have said, it's definitely normal practice and nothing to worry about. I just wanted to mention that if you're applying for UC because you can't work due to illness, you can let them know and they'll offer telephone appointments (or that's my experience anyway!).
Hope it all goes smoothly for you :)

poppy123456. Do you mind me asking why you have migrated over. From what I understand ESA will pay your stamp towards national insurance for old age but I didn’t think UC did that. I am not completely sure so please check. But when I applied for UC I left my ESA (support group) with ESA so they pay me fortnightly and when UC calculate my payment they take what I have been Paid by ESA off and then automatically put me LCWRA as I am in the support group of ESA. I hope that makes sense. I did need to a job centre appt once but asked for it to be via telephone which they did.

What happened to your ESA, means you were getting both Contributions Based & Income Related ESA.
When someone is on both CB & IR ESA, upon migration the IR ESA ends and is replaced by UC, the CB ESA converts automatically into New Style ESA.
Universal Credit also pays NI.

What makes you think I have migrated over to UC? I did say to you in a previous comment in your thread that I am still claiming ESA. I do not claim UC.
When claiming UC you also receive class 3 NI credits. For ESA it's class 1.

poppy123456. I am so sorry. I didnt scroll up high enough. My reply was to lulu28. My error. When I claimed UC, ESA implied I should stay with them as it helps my national insurance but I will definitely look into this. Thank you.

No problem. If you've migrated from ESA to UC and part of your ESA was contributions based, that part will continue and you'll receive £276.40/fortnight. The ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement. It will revert to New Style ESA automatically.
It is definitely worth continuing with the ESA because it's paid fortnightly as usual and can help to budget a little easier because UC is paid monthly.
You'll also receive class 1 NI credits but for UC it's just class 3.
The ESA isn't means tested like UC so could help in the future.

poppy123456. Thank you. I believe I am on new style ESA. I also receive Uc and as you say the ESA is deducted from the UC. I get the support group payment lbut I have money deducted from it a I also have a private pension being paid. Thanks again.

Hello can anyone help I'm trying to sign in to my journal I've been trying all over the weekend,I haven't received a security code to access ,I called DWP this morning waste of time that was ...all I need is a security code!!!! I'm getting so stressed I can't even change the way I receive the codes to email.when I first registered I had no problem receiving codes is there an issue with the service ? Help please

Good morning @lulu28.
Sometimes the codes can take a little while to come through. If you've pressed the 'resend code' button multiple times, I would recommend waiting a short while before trying again.
I'm not sure what other steps you can take to receive the code, but it's important to make sure that UC are aware you're having difficulty logging into your account.
