Looking for a job and ESA
Hi, I wonder if someone can help. I am on ESA (CB and support group). I am looking for a job at the moment. I understand that if i find a job over 16 hours per week my esa would need to stop. What happens if the job doesn't work out? Can i reclaim or would i be on JSA/UC. The jobcentre said they thought there was something which means you could be able to reclaim Esa but they were not sure. Thanks

what type of jobs would you be interested in?

hi. Thanks for replying. An office/ admin type job would be ideal.

You cannot work 16 hours under the ESA permitted work rules. You are allowed to work under 16 hours.
Best of luck with the job hunting.

Unless you would qualify for New Style ESA, you would not be able to reclaim ESA. The linking rules or “rapid reclaim” you may have heard of apply to the support group status, not the ability to claim ESA and so it would be considered a new claim. No new claims for ESA can be made (unless for New Style ESA), so you would be invited to claim Universal Credit instead.
UC has different rules on working to ESA. Some people find claiming UC before they start work, means they have some entitlement even when working, so if it does not work out they still have their LCWRA (support group equivalent) in the background.
