ACCEPT is the operative word in the NAS slogan - accept difference not indifference.

Having struggled in an NT world for fifty odd years, identifying a condition I knew nothing about was deeply shocking. Then I discovered the Scope forum and people like me. There is nowhere else like it.

Thank you Scope 💜

Thank you @WhatThe 😊 As someone who has also struggled in a world built this way I understand what you mean. I'm glad to have the chance to try and help such a community, even if I do sometimes miscommunicate a little 😅

OMG Just found this thread, I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!

You are not the only one and we are here for you. I'm not able to write profusely but I understand everything you say 💜

It's an isolating condition so finding other people like myself in one place has been incredibly reassuring.

It hurts when one of us is distressed and not supported in the right way on the forum. We must do better!

Bluebell, I couldn't log in until recently and felt a bit disconnected.

A very generous person, cheerful and engaging. What's not to like?

Accepting my diagnosis is a work in progress. Very, very few people IRL understand autism or know how to help me feel comfortable. Not all of us can express ourselves easily - reading is much easier for me than writing so I value exceptional members like eeL who can write incredibly well 💜

To me, autism is a condition, a disorder that I have. I've been ill most of my life and didn't suddenly become disabled! A learning disability is how it's described. Learning to understand ourselves is enough - I've no idea what my 'disability' means to anyone else.

Making connections on the Scope forum or joining in may be harder than it looks for some of us.

    Thank you, Jimm.

I do by some of you and it's easy to recognise one another I think. It shouldn't bother anyone else. I could barely write a sentence when I joined.
