As part of the application, you have the opportunity to tell them where you live and how much it costs.

Will the application ask me if I'm already in receipt of housing benefit -is that how it works?

I wasnt asked if I was already in receipt of housing benefit.
Some information here including a help line, sadly the example listed is extremely simplistic so doesnt explain things very well.

There will be a section on the UC form that deals with Housing Costs.

You'll then get a letter from local council saying HB is ending due to your UC claim.

You'll be entitled to two weeks hb (known as a run on payment) after your UC application, which won't be deducted from your first UC payment.

    Some information is here:

This one goes through the questions you'll be asked

If you're renting from social/council housing you will not need to provide proof of liability to pay rent. You will just need to give your landlords details and they contact them directly.

Proof is only needed if privately renting.

You will not need proof of rent. Yes, you will need to report the increase next year. However, if your UC includes Transitional Protection, this will erode when other elements increase or you become entitled to other elements so you won't be any better off.
