Talk gets worse julia hartley-brewer

Basically implying you don't need proof to claim disability..Accusing the sick of stealing people's money..As if things aren't bad enough for us

She always comes across like she loves the sound of her own voice.

She sounds like a racist and classist person and should not be on the radio discussing things she knows nothing about.

Unfortunately Talk comes at everything with a right wing popularist agenda. I can only say that I have seen it a few times, generally by mistake via YouTube. It has a very narrow viewpoint and more luckily not a high viewership. I tend to treat it likely some other sites and ignore it, not because I think it will go away but because the algorhythms on these sites pick up on what you watch or comment upon and sends you even more of the the same.
There will be people who believe the "misinformation" but hopefully for everyone of them there are our families, friends, medical staff etc who know better and who will hopefully stand with us. They know the processes, stress and guilt that we go through, we can't just say that because of health reasons we are unable to work we have to have medical records which confirm our conditions as go through an application process which is onerous, on top of that there are so many other reasons why employment opportunities don't just sit there waiting for us. Very few of us are work shy, I know I haven't been. I'm 62 and have worked almost all my life but I can't see me getting back into the workforce at my age, simply because there are virtually no jobs locally which are looking for my skills set and the amount of time I've had in the last year will make an employer look at me and shred my application.
Even the fact that there are more people on benefits cannot be blamed on us! The people like the presented spreading their prejudice, are too blame for the situation that we are in. Sorry if I get political (and I may say the same thing about Labour in future) but the Tories used economic forces for austerity. Other countries create wealth and investment in that period of time and have stronger economies because of it, whereas austerity has pushed the UK into near recession (that and the Truss budget). There are more people with mental health conditions (what do they expect with the financial and employment pressures we are under), employers incentives to employ less abled people have all but disappeared so why would they want to spend money on making a workplace accessible if they don't need to do so. The worst fact is that the people like the Talk host, neglect to say that the benefits pot includes pensions and all the related benefits. Benefits that we have paid into all our lives one way or another, and the newer pensioners are coming from the Baby Boomers, the largest generational group in the UK. People have been living longer so they are more likely to become less able. The lack of affordable health care or social support leaves many elederly people isolated in their own homes (yes I know there is a tranch of "wealthy" pensioners but there is a bigger group or those who are struggling).
As a community, the best we can do is to share or truth and experience with our families, friends and community so that they can join us to say to these bigots that they are wrong!

These people are such idiots. They're too lazy to actually do any research into it and clearly have absolutely no idea how it works.
The way they talk you'd think it was easy to claim benefits and that the DWP just hand it out to anybody. They don't even know that many people have to fight tooth and nail just to get their money.
All they do is make assumptions based on ill informed and poorly researched opinions. And remember the old saying - making assumptions males an ASS of U.
We shouldn't let their ignorance get to us. Personally I couldn't care less what these people think of me. We are all entitled to the money we get and we have fought to prove it. We should just focus on ourselves and not take it to heart. They don't matter and neither do their opinions.

I agree with some of her comments but don’t tar everyone with the same brush. There’s always been workshy people and they always will be . But how do you sort them out? Some people just have no intentions of ever wanting to work it’s not something new I’m in my late 60s and know people who have never worked in their lives some of them went to school with me . And quite frankly they have ended up better off than me. I worked from 15years old to 68 and got my own house but some of these people don’t pay rent or council tax and end up getting the winter fuel allowance because they qualify for pension credit. It’s the system that’s wrong but how do you sort it out ? There’s a million job vacancies in this country but people don’t want to work in sandwich shops or do cleaning jobs or anything where they might have to get up early on a morning it’s nothing new but how do you weed them out . I’m not saying everybody’s the same I had a year off work with anxiety and depression when I lost my job in coal mining but there was a lot more help and support then than there is now . You could just go to see your doctor without having to make an appointment and they could refer you straight to the appropriate place. Sorry for the rant I’m not getting on to the genuine people who are ill but those who I am talking about know who they are.

F****** idiot, she doesn't know what she's talking about, would she do any job,NO.
Who on earth wants to be disabled or sick, that it stops them from working, people like her don't know what their talking about.
We have paid into the system all of our working life, we are only claiming what we are entitled to.

omg she is so bloody arrogant and rude. Her voice is grating and she loves the sound of herself. Her comments about young people are deragotry and she should be sacked

I feel it's best not to watch that channel or others like it if you want any kind of peace of mind. They tend to all be very… combative shall we say?

Ignore. Like she’s ever done a days work. She just spouts her employer’s rhetoric to pay her mortgage and must be full of hate to be able to do that. She can no doubt sleep at night knowing her bills are paid by her hateful, twisted and idiotic vitriol but she’s nothing more than a groomer for vulnerable people who will think her point of view is correct. She’s a dangerous idiot who I avoid to protect my own blood pressure.

Out of all of them, that Northern Irish fella Is the only one out of all of them, who is sympathetic to disabled people and benefits. The rest of them, including JHB, are right wing nut jobs using Talk to spread poisonous bile.

I haven't listened to the clip posted above so please forgive me if my comments are out of order.
First of all, i think these cuts they are proposing - none of you posting on here need to worry about this media stuff. Anyone with a genuine disability will be supported going forward.
But, as a non disabled person myself, i have come across content on other forums (i won't name the popular parenting forum but you'll know the one) where i have been quite taken aback by the how motivated people seem to be to get every penny of benefit they can as a first resort.
To give an example that happened to me - my youngest daughter (16) had a tough time at high school and took an overdose in 2023. She is not disabled. But i did have a suspicion she might be autistic. I joined a thread on the parenting forum for a bit of support and to find others in the same situation.
My daughter was assessed for autism and is autistic. Immediately i wrote that on the forum, i had folks telling me to apply for pip!!
Even when i firmly said she is nowhere near disabled, would not qualify and doesn't need money anyway, i was reminded to the point where it got annoying and i closed my account.
The others on the thread - reading between the lines - had kids that had mental health issues, all were pushing for university, all had parents well up on how to get their 'rights' inside education and the benefits system.
I have another son who is disabled, he needs support in all areas of daily living and will do for life.
My daughter, as long as she organises her life in a manageable way, she has every chance of working, meeting a partner, living independently etc etc without state support.
Had we been pushy parents who'd packed her off to uni and applied lots of pressure to her, i'm quite certain she could have gone on to more mental health crises and, ultimately been 'disabled' for benefits purposes.
I'm not suggesting anyone is purposefully making their child/young adult disabled in order to claim benefits - only that in some families there very much seems to be a focus on what can't be done, rather than what can and a total bog down and descent into mental health illnesses.
Nor am i dismissing mental health issues - i am fully aware that these can be debilitating and long term. But there definitely seems to be an attitude amongst some folks that they sign off from life responsibilities very early and i think those are the folks the government will be looking at.
Many people with neurodiversity can work successfully with the right support.
I know a few young folks living in my neighbourhood just in their 20s that have become recluses and are unable to go outside now due to anxiety. These were normal children, no physical disability who had a bit of school bullying and withdrew from the world. This is on the increase. Very sad for the young people and their families. But these are people who would not be disabled had they received the right support at the right time. The government can see the crisis currently in our schools (non attendance, mental health) and has forecast a tsunami of support and not enough young folks entering the work place.
Something needs to be done for sure.
