Ahhhhh stressed
hi all
I have my second asd assessment in a few weeks, the first was done via video link with psychologist, the second is face to face with a slt
My worry is I am able to communicate one on one it’s only over the phone or in social situations I struggle
If anyone has had an slt assessment can you tell me the procedure please, I’m dreading they won’t say I’m autistic even though I believe I am due to being able to communicate one on one
Thanks

Hello @apples.
I'm sorry no one else has been able to share their experience with you yet. I would say they will be very used to the many different ways that people with autism may communicate and are trained to look out for things that you won't be aware of.
Generally, during an SLT assessment, they’ll focus on how you use and understand language in different contexts, including your social communication skills. It’s normal to feel worried about how they'll assess your situation, but remember that they are there to help understand how you communicate in various settings, not just one-on-one conversations. They might ask you about your experiences in social situations, how you manage phone calls, or other everyday interactions where communication can be tricky.
It’s also important to know that many people with autism can communicate well one-on-one but might struggle in larger social situations, so don’t let that make you doubt your experiences. Being honest about how you find social situations can help the SLT see the bigger picture.
After you have your assessment, if you're willing to share I would love to hear more about your experience.
