Compensation

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy 2 years ago (I'm 44). Although I knew I had issues with my mobility all my life, it was only diagnosed 2 years ago.

I have read that compensation claims should be made in early life however I wasn't diagnosed. Do you think I would stand any chance if I spoke to a solicitor.

Thank you in advance

Shay

    Hi @shayw

Thanks for your post and welcome to the Scope community.

The cut-off age to bring a medical negligence claim for cerebral palsy (CP) is 21 years old.

I do not have any medical training but because you were not diagnosed until 2 years ago, that means you were not aware of your medical condition before this, it would be good for you to speak to a solicitor. You might have up to 3 years, from the time you became aware/were diagnosed but I am sure, a solicitor will be able to inform you on the law about this. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you.
