I need advice
I have been on universal credit for 12 months and i am self employed. I have been told by the job centre I don't earn enough from my self employment and need to get a job. I know I won't be able to cope with working for someone else. I have quite a few disabilities. I also have hydrocephalus which makes it hard to do work for other people. I am not sure what to do. I have just applied for esa and I am already on standard daily living pip.

Have they applied the minimum Income floor to your claim?
Have you ever reported your health condition and provided fit notes for the work capability assessment?
Claiming ESA will not make you financially better off because it’s just deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

hi @poppy123456
Yes they have applied the income floor and I have been told i need to earn £1,300 a month. I haven't had chance to go the doctors because I had an appointment the jobcentre yesterday which was when I was told I needed to get a job. I was on jsa years ago and had to see the disability advisor who would not help and kept sanctioning me. I am not sure about the work capacity I talked to someone when I went on uc but we just talked to them about my self employment. It sounds like claiming esa will be just another kick in the teeth if they are going to take it off me as soon as I get it so it doesn't seem like there is much point in claiming it

The issue with the Minimum Income Floor is that your UC entitlement will be based on that figure, even if your earnings are less that that. This could mean your UC may reduce to zero.
In a thread about a year ago I advised you about reporting your health condition, was there any reason why you didn’t do that at that time? Was it because your earnings at the time were more than 16 x National Minimum wage? (NMW)
Are you now claiming PIP?
