WCA Changes/ Mobility Descriptor

Dear Everybody,

I claim PIP (higher rate for both components) and CB-ESA. I’ve been disabled since childhood. I was terrified by the move from the “old” legacy benefits to IR-ESA (as I claimed then) and from “lifelong” DLA to PIP. Ten years on I’m a mental wreck again.

The prospective changes to the WCA with reference to physical mobility is of particular concern. As many of you know, the mobility question is the first on an ESA50. The assessor didn’t look passed this question before placing me in the Support Group, though he acknowledged both upper and lower body disability. (My PIP report is in keeping with this… and much more.) So what happens if the 15-point descriptor for mobility no longer leads to Support Group/ LCWRA?

Physical mobility is about so much more that 50 metres (ESA) or 20 metres (PIP). It about getting to the bathroom safely, the non-ability to walk round a shop and so much more.

I’m sorry to bother you. I’m just so scared.

If this court case goes in our favour, the DWP will have to behave and i would imagine that anything controversial will be shut down.

    We'll see what happens.

That specific change was proposed by the previous Conservative Government.

    Those plans are now defunct.

Labour have committed to the welfare cost savings they inherited, but have stated they will be going their own way to implement them. And not following the previously proposed changes.

We should know in the Spring what their intentions are.

The court case is to do with the previous Government doing an insufficient consultation process prior to the announcement.
